Title: Little-Known Facts About Fall Herb Gardening

According to most people, spring is the best time of the year to start any type of gardening. Did you know, however, that fall is actually a great time for herb gardening? The truth of the matter is that fall herb gardening is actually a great way to accumulate some of the most versatile and popular herbs out there. Many herbs actually thrive in the low humidity level accompanied by the dropping temperatures. Not only that, it provides a beautiful time of the year for you to be out and about amongst your garden while the leaves change colors and the cool fresh air surrounds you.

As a general rule, fall herb gardening usually focuses on harvesting roots, berries, and leaves that have grown wild over the spring and summer. Traditionally, September and October are some of the best months to go out and cut your favorite herbs and get the most flavor and fragrance out of them. On the other end of the spectrum, there are also different seeds you can plant during this time of year as well. October can be a great time to harvest and plant, all at the same time!

Some of the most popular herbs to plant during fall herb gardening include parsley, cilantro, basil, and dill. These herbs are very aromatic and they thrive in the cool air and the soil that has been made soft in the fall. As you are cutting your other herbs and plants from your garden, you should try planting these herbs during the process. This will help you to fully utilize the time you spend out in your garden and increase the benefits you can receive from your garden.

Another important part of fall herb gardening is to make sure that you are preparing it for the long winter months ahead. The process is actually fairly simple and gives your garden a great head start come next spring. You should make sure that you cut down the woody and shrubby herbs in your garden and try transplanting some of your herbs into indoor growing containers so that they don't freeze to death. You might also want to treat your soil by adding some soil builder or getting new soil altogether. This will give it an entire season to settle in so that your garden will be enriched by the time you come back to attend to it in the spring time.
